Runescape PKing
To start, you’re probably wondering: what does PKing in Runescape mean? Easy. PKing means Player Killing. What that means is you can go out into the wilderness (aka: wildy, wild), and have battle with another live player of Runescape. Most Runescape PKers try to focus on just a few crucial stats so that they can keep a low level but can still hit a lot higher than the average player their level. (This is known as a pure or pure account) But be careful, some Runescape players are a lot more of a challenge than an AI monster. Unlike AI, a live player can heal with food, or prayer to defend themselves, they may also have some other tricks up their sleeves, so watch out! The perfect place to PK is North of Varrock, even better, North of the dungeon area.

So by now you’re asking “Is it dangerous?” Yes. PKing in Runescape might seem like fun, and sure, if you are successful at PKing people you of course get the items they have in their inventory, but there are some things you should watch out for. First, be weary when you attack another player in the wild. If you attack someone who has not attacked you first within the last 20 minutes, you will notice a skull above your players head which will last for 20 minutes. But, if someone attacks you, you do not receive a skull above your players head and you are allowed to attack them back without getting a skull. While you have a skull above your players head, if you die, either by person or monster, you lose everything you have in your inventory and on your players body at that time. Usually you’re allowed to keep your three most valuable items when you die without a skull, but like a said, if you have a skull, you lose everything.

Another thing you might want to be careful of, is other PKers amongst you. First people to keep an eye out for is the rangers, players that work only on their range, most times they combine their high level range with a high level defense to keep their player tough if they get into closer combat. If you get into a battle with someone, you can also be attacked by a player who is a ranger, so be very careful. Most likely, if they’re higher levels they’ve equipped dragon hide armor, which makes it a lot harder in battle with them. If you’re under attack by a group of rangers and you’re heavily outnumbered the smartest thing you can do is run. But, and this is the best thing you could do if your prater is at least level 40, which will allow you to use protect from missiles, that will keep the arrows from affecting your – this is one of the most useful prayers you’ll have.
The next form of player to watch out for in the wilderness is the mage. Now there are two different kinds. First there are pure mages, who have nothing but their level in magic built up. Those types of mages aim to take advantage of their super high level in magic to easily dispense the lower level players or even players of their own level efficiently and quickly. There are also, the tanking mage. This is a form of mage that has defense and magic built very high. That so they can last a lot longer in a match against someone who is quite powerful, long enough to wipe them out with magic. This is a very deadly combo and I advise you watch out for them. Although you could use protect from missiles, this mage can still kill you in no time with its melee.
So what should you do to prepare? There are a few things you can do to be sure you are not killed off in the wild. First, try to go with a friend or two, most times just joining a Runescape clam can vastly help you in the long run. You’ll probably need the assistance anyway, if the situation gets hairy. Also, it’s an advantage to have you and your buddies to sneak up on a player, to ensure that you’ll actually get the kill before they try to run off, although it means you’ll have to split the loot between your friends. That said, in the end it will most definitely be worth while, because you’re ten times more likely to get kills with a friend or two than you would if you were by your self.
You should come with a lot of food, best bet is lobsters, or even better, swordfish. You’ll need food when you’re in combat with other players. If they’re able to hit high enough on your player, you will have to quickly heal yourself. Lobsters are probably the most popular food in Runescape when it comes to lower level PKing. They are the most cost effective food for a PKer, and there are always a great supply of lobsters available.
If you’re not a pure mage, or a pure ranger be sure to come with a high prayer level. Because if you’re getting attacked by a ranger or tank mage, you’ll need to use your protect from missiles prayer to be sure the spells or arrows can not hurt your player. Also, you’ll probably find protect from melee quite helpful.
So, what is this that I hear about Combat Triangle? The triangle is in which players can be effective against each other. Summed up, a mage is more effective against a warrior player than it is a ranger, the ranger is a lot more effective against a mage than a warrior player, and then a warrior player is a lot more effective against a ranger than he is against the mage.
